What to do if your vehicle breaks down?

The last thing you want is to be stuck by the side of the road with a flat tyre or engine issue. Being ready and well-informed on what you should do can be critical in keeping you and your passengers safe with a broken-down vehicle.

Here are a few tips to help you and your passengers stay safe if your vehicle breaks down or you encounter a flat tire.

Turn on your hazard/emergency lights.

If you feel that something's not right, turn on your hazard lights immediately to alert other drivers. Make sure to keep them on until help arrives.

Slow down and move to the side of the road

Pull over to the side of the road, preferably into the hard shoulder and as far from the traffic flow as possible.

Turn your wheels away from the road and pull on the emergency brake.

Always make sure to apply the handbrake once stationary. If you have to pull over on a hill or slope, turn the car's wheels away from the road to avoid rolling into moving vehicles.

Exit your vehicle and move away from the road
